The Online Community Platform and Services Satisfaction research study was initiated in January of 2009. The study was created to provide insight about user attitudes towards their platform and service vendors, particularly around satisfaction. Further, we wanted to explore the unmet needs in the online community platform and services market.

We received approximately 208 completed surveys. Participants represent many sectors and markets include: large software companies, large community and social media destination sites, niche community sites, manufacturers, government and non-profits.

Vendors were not allowed to participate in this survey.

Key insights from the report include:

  • A majority of respondents (26%) said that their community has existed for more than five years. On the other end of the spectrum 17% said they had new communities of less than three months old.
  • Although the majority of respondents reported budgets of under $100,000, over 50 indicated budgets in the $100,000-$5M+ range.
  • A majority (48%) of respondents consider scalability and feature set equally as important when selecting a community platform.
