Senior Web Editor / Lead Facilitator at The Global Fund

Description

The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria is a global public/private partnership dedicated to raising and disbursing large amounts of additional finance to prevent and treat the three pandemics. The Global Fund has so far committed more than US$15 billion to over 740 programs in 140 countries.

The vacancy is in the Secretariat of the Global Fund. The Secretariat manages the grant portfolio, including executing Board policies, disbursing money to grant recipients and implementing performance-based funding of grants. The Secretariat is also tasked with resource mobilization; providing strategic, policy, financial, legal and administrative support and overseeing monitoring and evaluation. It is based in Geneva and has no staff located outside its headquarters.

Role Summary & Key results expected
The Senior Web Editor / Lead Facilitator is responsible for supervising and developing public Web content for the Global Fund website (www.theglobalfund.org) and to coordinate the promotion and facilitation of discussions on the Global Fund community platform (www.myglobalfund.org).

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Under the supervision of the Manager, Online Communications, and in close coordination with the Manager, Print & Audiovisual Communications Team, the Senior Web Editor / Lead Facilitator will:

1. Manage and coordinate all aspects of corporate multilingual web content production and updating
• Coordinate and manage the work of Web editors/facilitators;
• Oversee on a daily basis what the Global Fund presents to the public via its website;
• Decide on the inclusion, hierarchy, placement, and appropriate linkages for all content items on the top levels of the Global Fund website, including the homepage;
• Research relevant and timely issues to present on the homepage of the Global Fund website;
• Take overall responsibility for the content production and daily maintenance on the top levels of the Global Fund website in coordination with the Print & Audiovisual Communications Team and other relevant Secretariat teams;
• Assess the validity of the data and information for each content item on top levels of the web site according to established guidelines;
• Coordinate with the Global Fund in-house/external translation services to ensure production and timely publication of other language versions of content;
• Plan and establish a production schedule for features and facilitate the process through all steps, including clearance by relevant teams & units;
• Write and/or technically edit feature stories and coordinate their translation;
• Work with the Web Development team on the concept and information design of features, overseeing the production of original graphic and interactive components for optimal presentation on the site;
• Coordinate with communications staff to ensure consistency in messaging and timely publication;
• Ensure the implementation of promotional campaigns to generate appropriate traffic to the websites.

2. Help develop strategic directions and publishing policies to support the Global Fund’s online presence
• With the Manager, Online Communications, develop and communicate a vision of the Global Fund website editorial potential. This includes strategies and operational planning for the development of topic-based sites and country sites, enabling topic experts and countries to publish information in a consistent, consolidated manner across the organization, avoiding duplication of effort and mixed messages;
• In coordination with the Communications Unit and the Legal department, draft publishing policies and guidelines for online content publishing across the organization;
• Disseminate and implement those policies and guidelines throughout the Global Fund website.

3. Manage and coordinate the Global Fund Social Media presence in donor and implementing countries
• Coordinate with supervised staff the multilingual promotion, daily facilitation and ongoing monitoring of discussions on the www.MyGlobalFund.org platform;
• Develop the Global Fund’s social media presence on targeted platforms to raise awareness of the Global Fund and the results of the life-saving programs it supports;
• Help develop a long term strategy for social media by setting reasonable goals and monitoring system;
• Advise on the strategic directions to take to support, increase and improve participation in the MyGlobalFund.org forums and blogs.

Qualifications and Membership
Essential:
Advanced university degree in a communications, journalism, international relations or other related field. Public health training would be an asset.

Experience
Essential:
• At least five-ten years experience in senior communications position, including technical writing, editing and webmaster experience;
• Several years of experience working on multilingual websites;
• Two years experience in the development and use of Social Media platforms;
• Demonstrated leadership in a team environment;
• Proven track record of creative and innovative thinking;
• Excellent understanding of Web usability issues.

Technical skills and competencies
Knowledge of The Global Fund business processes and policies an advantage.

Languages
An excellent knowledge of English and preferably a good working knowledge of French or one of the following: Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish. Knowledge of other languages an asset.
