Online Community Organizer - Location Open at CODEPINK
Description
CODEPINK Women for Peace is looking for a talented Online Community Organizer to join our growing team. You will develop and execute our organizing and outreach/communications strategy in both traditional tools, such as search engine ads, and social networking sites like MySpace, Facebook, Care2, Flickr and YouTube with an aim to promote priority campaigns, recruit new online and on-the-ground activists, and amplify the grassroots voice on key peace/anti-war issues.
CODEPINK is looking to further develop our presence in online social networks – we understand the importance of investing time and energy in implementing online organizing strategies, building relationships, empowering our members and local groups across the country and ultimately getting measurable results. You are someone who enjoys a creative challenge, thinks outside the box, has exceptional writing chops, can work in a fast-paced atmosphere, and you're willing to do what needs to be done, from top-level strategizing to cutting and pasting and plugging away. This position is for a highly motivated self-starter interested in building
creative tools online to support the on-the-ground work of a dynamic organization with national reach.
Responsibilities:
* Write and post blogs, bulletins, and updates
* Maintain profiles and groups with fresh content daily
* Grow our presence in key online social networks
* Give input for developing online advocacy systems and design online advocacy campaigns to complement on-the-ground organizing efforts, whether viral videos or email blasts to Congress
* Keep up-to-date with new technologies and propose new online and electronic capacities to enhance CODEPINK's work
* Build relationships with key online influencers, online and on the phone as needed
* Stay up to date on the latest social networking tools, applications and features
* Train and support staff and local group coordinators in best practices in social network campaigning
* Open doors for staff appearances throughout the online world by building relationships with key gatekeepers outside the organization, such as prominent bloggers and online writers.
* Work with Media Coordinator to promote relevant stories and press materials in blogosphere
* Develop a strategy to engage and motivate our most active online advocates
* Databasing and writing reports as needed
* Conduct online research as needed
Qualifications:
* Excellent written and verbal communications skills
* Strong online research skills
* Experience with online social networks
* Familiarity with blogs, RSS feeds, wikis, html a plus
* Tech savvy
* Competency with excel and web databases
* Ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment
* Ability to teach, guide and encourage others about the best practices in this field, including patience with people new to Web 2.0 tools and culture.
* Intellectual curiosity and creativity
* Analytical and problem solving skills
* Commitment to peace and social justice
* A sense of adventure
* On the ground organizing and activism experience preferred
* Experience conducting trainings and developing leaders a plus!
Salary: Commensurate with experience
This is a contract position through the end of 2008, with a strong likelihood of becoming a permanent position thereafter.
